A MOTHER who has to take her son for chemotherapy treatment at Great Ormond Street Hospital has hit out at changes to rail travel pricing.
National Express East Anglia has banned the use of One Day Travelcards on trains leaving Liverpool Street between 4.29pm and 6.34pm.
Allison Thumwood, of Mersea Road, has to take 12-year-old son Jack for treatment at the London hospital a handful of times each month.
She said they were restricted already with what appointments they could book, because they could not use trains leaving before 9.15am.
"Because we are there later in the morning we are always running the risk of coming home at rush hour," she said.
"For us it means either hanging around and waiting until we are able to travel or having to pay the extra cost, which we can't afford.
"We spend all day waiting around having treatment, and kids don't want to be stuck waiting around for trains as well.
"This particular restriction is going to make it hard for lots of families."
National Express East Anglia has said the recent changes made buying tickets easier to understand and recognised a recent increase in demand for travel at peak times.
