A MAN was caught carrying coats with their tags still on after they had allegedly been stolen from a town centre store.

Police spotted a man walking in Lancaster Way, Braintree, on Thursday with items of clothing from New Look.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of theft and interviewed by the police’s Braintree Town Centre Team.

Dennis Woolard, of no fixed abode, has since been charged with theft from a shop and assaulting an emergency worker.

He was remanded in police custody and is due to appear at Colchester Magistrates' Court today.
