HUNDREDS of people attended the county's first equine security event - complete with Essex Police horses.
The one-day free event took place at Towerlands, in Braintree, yesterday to raise awareness of the issue of thefts and how horse owners can reduce the risk of crime.
Companies which specialise in security for stables, horse yards and equestrians were on hand to offer advice and information, as well as showcasing the latest security devices.
Two of the force's recently reinstated mounted unit were also at the event, with people queuing to have their photo taken beside them and to have a chat with the riders.
To keep the youngsters entertained, the Essex Flyball dog team - specially trained dogs who jump through hoops, nudge a machine to release a tennis ball and then race back in relay teams - put on a variety of displays throughout the day.
