BORED schoolchildren have been causing a nuisance this half-term in the Colchester area.

Colchester police have received a number of calls from residents in the district complaining of nuisance youths.

Some of the calls were simply about groups of youngsters gathering, shouting and swearing, but others were potentially more serious.

The driver of a silver-coloured Nissan car complained to police after someone threw eggs at his car, as he drove along Dahlia Walk at about 11.20am yesterday.

Three children, aged ten to 12, were also spotted throwing stones from St Mary's car park, in Balkerne Hill, at about 11pm, and in Ardleigh a home-owner reported people throwing eggs and fruit at the front of the house between 11pm and 11.15pm.

Earlier that evening, at about 7.20pm, residents in Parsons Lane dialled 999 after two 12 or 13-year-old boys were seen clambering across the roof of a warehouse.

Other youngsters were reported clambering over garages in Peldon, and on sheds, schools and buildings across the district.
