AN investigation has been launched after a section of a new bridge fell on to tracks, narrowly missing a train.
Network Rail has banned work on the bridge, part of an extension to the East London Line, after the concrete slab landed in front of an Essex-bound passenger service from Liverpool Street Station.
There was major disruption for north Essex commuters yesterday as Liverpool Street was closed for safety reasons after the accident.
A reduced service operated from stations including Colchester, Clacton and Harwich during the morning rush-hour, with London-bound trains stopping at Stratford.
The normal schedule resumed at 9.30am.
