A COLCHESTER schoolgirl has been making waves in international football, gaining four goals and four assists in three games for the Lionesses U17 team.
Madison Earl, 15, from Colchester High School, currently plays for Arsenal and the Lionesses U17s, with dreams of one day becoming a first team starter.
Her Euros 2022/23 first round campaign saw her play against Ukraine, scoring two goals, against Estonia and scoring a goal and against Denmark, scoring a goal, as well as gaining four assists during the campaign.
Her footballing career began aged just five, playing for Eight Ash Green. Aged seven, she had a successful trial at Arsenal, joining their U11s team and playing for the London club since.
On her Lionesses selection, Madison said: “Being selected for you country is always a proud moment, being recognised and acknowledged for your contributions on the pitch is valued.
“It is an honour and privilege to wear the shirt and to sing the National nthem and to represent my country.”
On her dreams of one day playing in the Lionesses first team, Madison said: “It is literally what dreams are made for.
"It is what I strive for, all the extra training sessions at club and away are all part of the process of hopefully being able to play for the first team.
“Working hard at the club is the most important element as they are instrumental in aiding my development and creating the right challenging environment for me.”
Adam Dowson, who is head of PE and Games at the school, said: “We are so incredibly proud of Maddy and her achievements.
"This round of matches against Ukraine, Estonia, and Denmark were amazing to follow.
“Maddy showed great composure and confidence in her ability, making a huge impact in all three of the games. It makes us even more excited about what the future holds for her.”
Head teacher Karen Gracie-Langrick said: “Maddy shows to all of our pupils on a daily basis how you can balance a commitment to academic work and also have a career in elite sport.
“Her continued dedication to her studies at the same time as a rigorous training schedule is testimony to her strength of character and determination to succeed.”
