Sport Science Student Switches To Healthcare Subordinate
Marissa Day: “It was really tough…it was hard work.”
In the beginning, a strong sense of passion and admiration for all things sport, exercise and science led Marissa Day (23) to college, to pursue an in-depth and courageous career of helping and teaching students a variety of physical education as a teacher. She is now an essential Healthcare Assistant. What made her change her mind? Was it the annual leave? Was it the housing options? Was it the staff lucky lottery scheme? The discounts, the lease car scheme, the advancement opportunities?
No! She recalls: “When I was studying at college, I was really interested in the anatomy and physiology side of, like, the human body, and that made me want to go into knowing more.” Despite the different jobs having little correlation between them, Marissa states that the same skills are needed : “I think you need to be very hard-working, need to be a good listener, you need to manage your time properly, and make sure you achieve your tasks that you set out to do.”
This may be slightly surprising for some, as while sport focuses on drive, will power and dedication, healthcare works on community building - putting people first - strength as “one big family” and being rewarded with changing and saving lives. This is especially what Marissa looks forward to, and this presents her journey to be driven by inspiration, rather than the flexibility the job offers.
Overall, even after having to adjust to the early start times and uncertainty, Marissa and millions of devoted people love this salient profession.
