Speeding is not unique to Colchester, but as with any other town or city, the area certainly has its hotspots when it comes to drivers trying to get away with putting their foot down.
Due to the number of roadworks, the A12 is very much out of the picture when it comes to speeding, but there are plenty of other routes in Colchester and the surrounding areas where drivers risk other people’s safety to get to their destination a few minutes earlier.
Here are some of the roads in or around Colchester, as voted by you, where you see the most culprits.
Ipswich Road
Ipswich Road, but worse are the drivers who, at rush hour, rush over the phantom island past the Ferrari garage, going over the protected right turn, to go down to the right turn traffic lights for Severalls Lane. This is not only selfish, it's dangerous as well as futile as those lights take a while to change, so they'll sit and wait. Some enforcement is needed here. – Nigel Brown
Layer Road
Layer Road. I invite Colchester Gazette reporters to come and visit my school crossing site in a morning or afternoon to see how dangerous it is. – Gregory Edwards
Main Road
Main road through Great Horkesley. I'm certain even lorries do close to 50mph sometimes, and the pavements are tiny. – Geoff Clark
Straight Road
Straight Road in the evening is awful, going past people drive at least double the speed limit. – Rebecca Kudyk
St Andrew's Avenue
St Andrew's Avenue is like a race track with some cars straight lining the Harwich Road roundabout at speed. – Pam Sinclair
Brightlingsea Road
Brightlingsea Road, from Thorrington Cross down into Brightlingsea. Utterly terrifying to pull out of the drive. With a 40mph speed limit, people regularly do 60+ around blind bends with drive entrances all along. – Emma McGregor
Berechurch Road
Berechurch Road is bad for speeding, can imagine there being many accidents this winter. – Hannah Porter
Abbots Road
Abbots Road. Especially at night – Gav Coleman
Great Tey Village
Through the 30mph of Great Tey village, especially at night. People seem to think it's a racetrack. – Lynn Whitmore
Cowdray Avenue
Cowdray Avenue as drivers race to get ahead before the two lanes become one – Jane Green
Nowhere...
I would be happy If I could reach the speed limit in Colchester – Nicky Walker
