AN inspiring young girl with ADHD and sensory issues who wanted to grow her “hair like Rapunzel” is now preparing to have it chopped off to help children with cancer.

Skyler Toh, from Lexden,  has been growing out her lengthy locks in aid of the Little Princess Trust, all while also raising hundreds of pounds.

The non-profit organisation uses real hair donated by generous youngsters to create wigs to help restore the confidence of children fighting cancer.

Eight-year-old Skyler, a student at Lexden Primary School, says growing her hair has not been an easy process, but one she was determined to endure for a great cause.

She said: “I wanted to grow my hair like Rapunzel, but then it started to get really hard as it was hurting my head - it is really painful to brush, even when it's not knotty.

“So, I knew then I had to cut it, but then I saw a video about The Little Princess Trust.

“I then decided I had to keep going to help at least one child who doesn't have any hair be really happy, and to put a smile on their face.”

Skyler, who was diagnosed with ADHD, sensory issues and tics during lockdown, has so far generated close to £1,000 in sponsors for the charity

She will now have her long brown locks cut on December 10 in front of a no-doubt cheering crowd of supports at her school’s Christmas craft fair.

"I can't wait to get my hair cut as it won't hurt anymore, and I'm excited to see my new hairstyle,” added Skyler, whose parents are Sylvia, 42, and John, 41.

"I'm super happy I have raised this much and so happy I raised above my target as I didn't think I would even do that. I'm so thankful to the community for helping me.”

Mum Sylvia admits Skyler has been on a challenging journey since her diagnosis but says she could not be more proud of her little girl.

She said: “Skyler is used to routine and finds change difficult, so it will be after the cut that will take some getting used to for her, which is a little nerve-racking.

“It's been a difficult journey seeing her struggle daily with not knowing how to process her feelings and emotions – it can be really hard.

“But Skyler is such a kind, caring, and loving girl and we are so incredibly proud of Skyler for wanting to grow her hair and donate it to such a great cause."
