A well-used community resource is set to get a revamp thanks to the hard work of a group of children.
Children, aged from 12 to 17, at Mistley Norman Kids Club applied for funding from the Youth Capital Fund at Essex County Council to get a new kitchen for their club, based in Furze Hill village hall, Shrubland Road, Mistley.
They wrote a letter to the council explaining why they needed a new kitchen and took pictures of the existing facility.
They also got quotes to find out exactly how much they would need to get a new kitchen fitted in the hall.
They were delighted when they received a letter saying they would be awarded £8,400 from the fund towards a new fitted kitchen.
Claire Moss, manager of Kid's Club, said: "The kitchen we have at the moment is absolutely disgusting, and we probably would have ended up being shut down by health and safety if something wasn't done about it.
"A lot of our children love cooking, and it's all part of their learning."
Mrs Moss said the children were delighted and added: "The kitchen is a vital part of Kid's Club, and the children are over the moon about it because all their hard work has paid off. They did really well and I'm really proud of them."
