Police recruited pupils to promote prudent pedalling.
Children at Millfields Primary School, Wivenhoe, were challenged by the town's neighbourhood specialist officer PC Wendy Byrne to design a poster about bicycle safety.
Sensible cycling, wearing a helmet and reflective clothing and using lights were encouraged by the children's colourful creations, which PC Byrne inspected.
The year one class at Millfields Primary School used the film of Shrek to create their entry into the Essex Writing Project, which involves using films to improve children's writing skills.
Class teacher Joanne Clark said: "We chose the Shrek film and we've been using it to improve the children's writing.
"They've written stories and poems about it and we even made sculptures."
