BOSSES at a closed down skating rink are now looking to assemble a “strong and skilled” team of volunteers to help them pack down and move out.

Rollerworld, in Moorside, emotionally shut its doors on November 30 after being a staple of Colchester for more than three decades.

In a show of solidarity with venue owners Jason and Anne Khan, the final night saw hundreds of skaters take to the hardwood flooring for one last time.

The couple are now appealing to the generosity of the community ahead of having to clear out the historic venue before their current contract comes to an end.

In a statement published on social media, a spokesman for Rollerworld said: “We need your help, starting December 28 for a week to ten days.

“We need some strong and skilled volunteers to help us remove the Rink floor, barriers, lockers and Laser Quest.

“People with vans would be greatly appreciated and don't worry, we will feed you.”

Even though Rollerworld was made an asset of community value, Colchester Council has confirmed it has no jurisdiction over the removal of the rink.

A spokesman for the authority added: “As it is an internal alteration, planning permission is not required.”
