WORK has begun to demolish buildings at a former council depot in Colchester.
North East Demolition UK Ltd has started pulling down corrugated iron sheds on the Jarmin Road site in preparation for flats to be built there.
In March, Colchester Council gave permission for 118 new homes to be built on the site overlooking Colchester's Castle Park - despite opposition from residents.
The plans include 26 houses and 90 flats, which could be in blocks up to four storeys high.
John Kochan, of North East Demolition, said his team were likely to be at the site for about four to six weeks.
