A BELOVED member of a church is being remembered by the congregation.
Terry Scowen had been the caretaker at All Saints and St James Church Brightlingsea.
In a post on social media, the Rev Caroline Beckett described Mr Scowen's death as "a real shock".
She said: “It is with great sadness that I write about the death of our lovely caretaker Terry Scowen.
“Terry did so much for so many with such kindness of heart and his death is a real shock and a great loss to us.
“We will miss his dedication, his helpfulness, his compassion for those in difficulties, his wicked sense of humour and his care for the community.”
Ms Beckett added Mr Scowen was still wanting to help others even when he was very ill.
She continued: “Even when I visited him in hospital, he was thinking of others and who would do their shopping for them with him out of action.
“From event set up to errands, prescription pick up to litter picking, practical help to a listening ear, Terry gave so much and asked so little of others in return.
“Our hearts go out to his family and friends – may his memory be a blessing.”
