MATT Bloomfield says he will never forget his first-ever league win as a head coach.

But the Colchester United boss is now keen to create more milestone moments with the club.

Bloomfield chalked up his maiden victory in charge of the U's against Harrogate Town, back in October.

Colchester head to the EnviroVent Stadium to take on the Sulphurites again tomorrow - and Bloomfield is setting his sights on back-to-back wins for the first time this season.

Bloomfield said: "I was obviously pleased to get my first-ever win as Colchester United head coach against Harrogate.

"It will always hold fond memories and I'll never forget that day as long as I live.

"But this is a fresh trip up north.

"The away form hasn't been great this season but we got the away win at Gillingham and we want to follow that up with another good performance.

"That has to be our sole focus.

"I think it's important that we have that first away league win.

"These things play a part in the psychology of football clubs and sport in general.

Gazette:

"Any sport is played in your mind - I think your feet are just the outcome of what your mind's telling you.

"It's important that we've got that first league away win off our backs and we want to follow it up as soon as possible.

“We have to be pleased with the way we've been performing.

"Even if you go back to the Mansfield game, I thought we played pretty well.

"It's all about us controlling our performances and looking ahead."

Colchester's trip to play Harrogate tomorrow is the first of three matches against sides in and around them in the table.

The U's visit Rochdale next weekend followed by a home clash with bottom side Gillingham but Bloomfield is looking no further than tomorrow's clash.

He said: “It’s not about the rest of the month – it’s about Saturday at Harrogate.

“The only thing we can control is our performances, our approach to the game, our mentality, our psychology, our team shape, the tactics we put in place and how we execute those tactics.

Gazette:

“That’s what we’re going to look to try and do at Harrogate and once we’re done with that game, we’ll move on to the next one.

“We’ve watched their games and we try and analyse as diligently as we possibly can.

“They’ve got threats in their team and we know all about them and what they’re going to bring and we respect that totally.

“The job Simon (Weaver) has done there over many years has been absolutely fantastic.

“The levels he’s risen with that football club and where he’s taken them to is brilliant.

“They’ve established themselves as a good League Two team now and we know the threats they’ve got in their team.

“We have to be really respectful of that but we also have to be confident in the performances that we’ve been giving and back ourselves to go and try and take the game to them as well."

Colchester's new signings Fiacre Kelleher, Arthur Read and Connor Wood are all set to be named in their squad for the Harrogate clash.
