BAKERY chain Greggs could be set to open its sixth shop in Colchester after new plans were approved.
The brand has been given the green light to put up signs at 40 Culver Street West.
The building was previously used by JD Sports which is now based in Lion Walk Shopping Centre.
Greggs had applied to Colchester Council to put up four fascia signs, one projecting sign and some window vinyl graphics.
Colchester Council has given the bid the green light.
The new shop will become the sixth the brand has in the city with a seventh drive-thru version of the store planned for Northern Gateway.
It already has shops in High Street, Long Wyre Street, St Christopher Road, Stane Park and at Stanway Retail Park.
It is not yet clear when the new city centre shop will open its doors.
The news comes as a number of new cafes and eateries have been unveiled as opening in the city centre.
Brick Lane Bagel Co., founded by father and son duo Stuart and Elliott Hearne, is in the process of building an eatery in High Street, Colchester.
The news of the top-tier acquisition started to circulate after ‘coming soon’ signs appeared in the windows of a currently empty unit opposite Three Wise Monkeys.
While Roots and Grooves, which will fill in the retail unit once occupied by Upchurch Jewellers in St Nicholas Passage, will open to members of the public on Wednesday, January 25.
Baz Briggs, who will be running the shop with his partner Amy, said he always had ambitions to open a business which was involved in selling vinyl.
The café will also sell plants.
