RESIDENTS in north Essex and throughout the county who are in need of mental health help have been told asking for support is a sign of courage, not weakness.
The Essex Partnership University NHS Trust has reminded people of the mental health services it offers ahead of Time To Talk Day, which is held next Thursday.
The national event, described as “the biggest mental health conversation”, is designed to help change lives by providing a safe space in which residents can open up.
Paul Scott is the chief executive of EPUT, which runs facilities such as The Lakes and the Peter Bruff Mental Health Ward in Turner Road, Colchester.
He said: “It’s Time To Talk Day on Thursday and I’d like to take the opportunity to remind everyone about the importance of reaching out for mental health support.
“Asking for support should never be viewed as a sign of weakness but one of courage.”
Among other means of support, the NHS trust is able to provide free counselling and psychological therapy to people across Essex through its Therapy for You service.
Run in partnership with North Essex Mind, it aims to help people experiencing depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder and specific phobias.
People aged 16 and over living in Colchester and Tendring can access the service by calling 01206 334 001 or visiting therapyforyou.co.uk.
Mr Scott added: “If you or someone you love is struggling with their mental health, please reach out, help is available.”
