COLCHESTER Prep and High School is celebrating the release of a new report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate which saw them awarded a double excellent rating.
The ISI rating praised the school in all facets, awarding it excellent for the quality of pupils’ academic and other achievements, and excellent for the quality of pupils’ personal development.
The co-educational school, located on Wellesley Road, was praised in all areas, with specific notice on the pupils personal achievements and developments.
On the quality of pupils’ personal development, the report stated: “Pupils look after each other and demonstrate very high levels of care and friendship.
“Pupils understand the importance of physical and emotional health and well-being, and this contributes to their success in gaining the highest possible grades.
“Pupils are highly self-confident and self-aware. They are proud of their school and speak eagerly of their ambitions for the future.”
On the school’s wealth of accolades, the Independent Schools Inspectorate noted: “Pupils achieve highly in and outside the classroom. They are successful in competitions across a range of disciplines, including traditional music, art and sport and more cerebral activities such as chess and ecowarriors.
“Many pupils achieve success in English speaking board and LAMDA presentations with achievements of merit or distinction.
“Year 9 pupils received regional commendations and prizes for young translators. Individual excellence has been achieved in the United Kingdom mathematics intermediate challenge.”
On pupils’ progress, the ISI noted: “Relationships between teachers and pupils are harmonious and positive, creating an environment in which pupils make rapid gains in their learning.”
“Pupils accept responsibility readily and develop leadership and teamwork skills.”
Head teacher Karen Gracie-Langrick said: “I am delighted with the findings of the report.
"A double ‘excellent’ is the highest possible inspection outcome and the report endorses the school’s ethos of providing an inspiring education which builds in our pupils the confidence and strength of character to prepare them to be the changemakers of tomorrow’s world.
“The ISI has clearly seen the value of our forward-thinking STEAM curriculum, Digital Literacy Mastery Programme and focus on social responsibility in helping to build confident, balanced individuals, prepared for the future and life in modern Britain.
“I would like to thank our pupils, staff and parents who have all worked with us to achieve this fantastic outcome for our school.”
