A COLCHESTER school has closed to all students apart from Year 11 pupils as a result of teachers going on strike.
St Helena School, in Sheepen Road, is shut to a majority of students today after education workers took to the picket line.
As a result of the industrial action, spearheaded by the National Education Union, pupils in Years 7 to Year 10 are having to work remotely.
The school is, however, open to Year 11 students.
Charlie McCarthy, acting head of St Helena School, said: "The Year 11 students will spend the day with staff preparing for their final GCSE and vocational examinations and courses.
"Students will be reminded of revision strategies and complete vocational
coursework, revision and English and Maths practice papers."

In addition to St Helena School, other schools in the city were also expected to partially close.
This include Paxman Academy, which the Gazette understands has only opened to Year 10 students.
St Benedict's Catholic College also suggested only Year 11 pupils would be allowed on site.
Bosses at Montgomery Infant School had also advised parents to find "alternative child care arrangements".
