UPDATE: Injured woman airlifted to hospital after incident on bridge above A12 near Stanway
AN air ambulance landed on a busy main road and traffic came to a standstill as the emergency services responded to serious “police-led incident”.
Police officers, military personnel and paramedics were all called to the A12 near Stanway this afternoon, according to eyewitnesses.
In a photo sent to the Gazette an Essex & Herts Air Ambulance can be seen attending the scene and is believed to have landed near the road’s Junction 26 turn-off.

The incident, which resulted in motorists travelling in both directions being stopped, was first reported shortly after 3pm by National Highways East.
Drivers found themselves in four miles of traffic on the southbound carriageway and three miles of congestion on the northbound carriageway.
By roughly 4pm the road was reopened but up to four miles worth of congestion on the southbound carriageway remained.
The emergency services have all been contacted for more information.
