THE owner of a small business has been hit with a fine close to £2,000 after Colchester Council prosecuted him for displaying signs which went against the Town and Country Planning Act.
Damenjit Ahuja, who runs the phone workshop Professor Phone in Eld Lane, Colchester, faced one charge of contravening an enforcement notice regarding the display of an advertisement.
Under UK law, business owners need to obtain planning permission before carrying out a development or putting up signage.
Magistrates found against the 22-year-old last Wednesday, proving the case in Ahuja’s absence.
He was fined an overall sum of £1,800.
