A MAN has told how he witnessed a house in flames.
The home in Turner Road, Colchester, opposite the Colchester Primary Care Centre, was severely damaged by the blaze.
Neighbours said they were lucky to be relatively unaffected by the fire, apart from the smell of smoke lingering in their homes.
The front room windows of the house were smashed and the inside has been seriously impacted by the fire.
A neighbour said: “Luckily everyone got out of the house but an awful amount of damage has been caused.
“My house smells strongly of smoke but other than that I am OK.”
A video of the scene shows firefighters in action at the scene.
The road is now open and traffic is back to normal.
One eyewitness Louis said: “I was on the bus and it was one of the first vehicles to approach.
“There were two fire engines blocking the road and a house was on fire, there was a lot of smoke coming from it.
“It looked pretty intense, the windows were smashed and the whole inside looked burnt down.
“There was a lot of traffic building up as the fire service was busy trying to put it out.
“There was one gentleman stood outside who looked quite worried and there were a few neighbours stood outside.”
