A THIEF who stole from two city centre shops has been punished.
Matthew Macauley, 29, also assaulted a man during his spree of offences on May 7 last year.
Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard he stole £174.50 worth of goods from Wilko in St John’s Walk, Colchester and £148 of items from Marks and Spencer in High Street.
Macauley, of Adelaide Street, Charing Cross, London, admitted the offences, as well as failing to surrender to custody on February 11.
He was ordered to undertake 120 hours of unpaid work and to pay £100 in compensation.
Macauley must also pay £240 in costs and a surcharge.
