A CHARITY gig in the city centre will see musicians playing their hearts out to raise money for Macmillan cancer charity, whilst paying homage to loved ones who have died from the disease.
Talented musician turned gig organiser Thomas Diggens has organised a charity gig alongside wife, Georgia, at CODA Colchester, after the disease impacted the pair’s life in multiple ways.
Thomas lost a close friend and member of his former band, Stoney Road, to pancreatic cancer just a few weeks ago.
The band will reunite on the evening to pay homage to their former member.
Georgia’s father is currently going through the cancer treatment for stomach cancer, going through the final stages of chemotherapy.
Both were treated and cared for by Macmillan nurses during their stay at hospital, so the gig hopes to raise funds and show the couple’s appreciation for the charity’s vital work.
The Rock 4 Macmillan event hopes to raise £1,000 for the cancer charity and the vital services they perform.
The evening will kick off with Thomas and Georgia performing in their acoustic duo, G&T, then Thomas’ dad’s band, SKaM, will perform an eclectic set of covers.
The penultimate act will see Stoney Road reunite after 11 years, in order to pay homage to a former bandmate, Trevor. Finally, Thomas’ current outfit, Barney and the Rubbles will finish off the evening.
Speaking on the importance of the charity gig, Thomas said: “This cause is something that Georgia and I feel passionate about.
“Cancer unfortunately will affect everybody at some stage, whether this is something that you personally go through or a loved one going through it.
“This is our way of trying to give back what we can and thank the amazing professionals in Macmillan.
“A special mention to CODA for accommodating us and donating £300.00 to the cause as well.”
The special charity gig will be held on Friday, May 12, at CODA, in Colchester city centre. All proceeds raised will go towards Macmillian cancer charity.
