A SCHOOLBOY'S dreams came true when he was allowed to jump on beds at a supportive furniture store.
Usually racing over beds is not allowed at home for sporty Harry Jeffery.
But Harry has now found support from a furniture business which is sponsoring his competitive obstacle course racing ambitions.
Harry won a silver medal for Team UK at the Spartan World Championships, held in Florida in December.
His dad, Stuart Jeffery, is extremely proud of his son’s achievements. He explained: “This was the biggest UK team ever.
“Harry was the first ever male competitor to finish on a podium at a Spartan World Championship event.”
The 11-year-old and his dad have been running together since Harry was seven and regularly pass the Tollgate retail parks, often using the Fabb Furniture store on Tollgate Way, Colchester, as a waypoint.
The young athlete caught the attention of the shop’s staff who invited him into the store to check out his skills.
The team were so impressed they decided to present him with a £500 sponsorship cheque.
Harry, who was jumping for joy at the business' generosity, said: “I am very grateful they are supporting me.
“We run past the store all the time and to be able to say Fabb is my sponsor fills me with pride.”
Sofas and mattresses were used as an obstacle course on one memorable visit to the shop, where staff filmed Harry in action.
The silver medallist enjoyed the experience and said: “At home I’m not allowed to jump on my bed so it was really fun jumping on the beds in the shop.”
Harry’s efforts also caught the attention of a firm of estate agents, Nicholas Percival, who made a significant contribution.
The kind donations from the businesses will help Harry’s family attend the next championship event in August, where his sister Sophie, who is eight-years-old, will compete for the first time.
The siblings, who are both pupils at Prettygate Junior School, practise every day using a 21-metre rig in the family’s back garden.
A spokeswoman for Fabb Furniture said: “When we heard that [Harry] used our store as part of his daily training plans, we were keen to find out more about this remarkable young man.
“What better way for us to reflect the confidence we have in our well-built furniture than letting Harry loose on it.”
