SHOPPERS have been praised for generously putting their hands in their pockets and helping a community group raise hundreds of pounds for charity.

Volunteers from the Clacton-on-Sea Lions Club spent two days fundraising with their collection buckets at Morrisons, in Little Clacton, last Friday and Saturday.

In total in-store customers contributed to an impressively-sized windfall of more than £797, which will now be donated to the Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal.

A spokesman for the Clacton-on-Sea Lions Club said: “We would like to say a thank you to all who supported us at Morrisons in Little Clacton on Friday and Saturday.

“We collected the fantastic amount of £797.20 for The Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal. Thank you again, we could not do what we do without your continued support.”

The Marie Curie Daffodil Appeal sees care and support provided to people living with terminal illnesses, as well as their families, by experienced professionals.

A spokesman for the non-profit organisation said: “Marie Curie Nurses provide highly skilled care in our hospices and in people's homes, across the UK, day and night.

“With your support, we can continue to help people get the care they urgently need.”
