JAYDEN Fevrier is beginning to look home from home as a Colchester United first-team player.

And the 19-year-old winger will no doubt feel even more like he is on familiar territory, this weekend.

Fevrier will be heading back to his birthplace of Leyton when the U’s play take on League Two leaders Orient at Brisbane Road tomorrow.

So the teenager is naturally hoping to make another good impression if given the opportunity to shne, against his home-town team.

Gazette:

“Leyton Orient is about ten-15 minutes from me, so it’ll be nice to go back home after the game and see my family,” said Fevrier, who grew up in nearby Chadwell Heath.

“My friends and family should be at the game, so hopefully we can get the result and for the fans as well.

“We’ll go into the game trying to win.”

Fevrier has been making a favourable impression for Colchester over recent weeks, having joined them from West Ham United on a deal until the end of the season, last October.

The former England youth international has featured as a second-half substitute in each of the U’s last three games in League Two and is pushing for his first professional start this weekend, under new boss Ben Garner.

Gazette:

Fevrier admits it is an important period in his career, as he bids to establish himself at the U’s.

Fevrier said: “I think it’s kind of make or break time now.

“I’m about to be 20 soon and it’s a chance for me now to try and break through and establish myself as a professional footballer.

“I love it at Colchester – the people, the staff are really friendly and they welcome me really well.

“It’s a good group of players, so I enjoy playing with them.

“The plan was to try and break through and now I just want to get more minutes.

“Whenever I’ve played for the 21s, I’ve tried to impress and show that I can be levels above and try and get into the first-team squad.

“It’s a bit different, because I’ve never had a change of manager that quickly and it’s a new experience for me but I’m enjoying every second.

“He’s a good gaffer to play under.

Gazette:

“When I’ve come on, I’ve tried to create and get goals and change the result.

“Late in the game, I can use my pace a bit more because there’s some tired defenders out there.”

Fevrier spent a total of 12 years at West Ham, having joined them at the age of seven years old.

He became the youngest-ever player to represent the Hammers’ reserve side when he featured for them at the age of 15 years, six months and 12 days in a game against Leicester City in October, 2018.

Fevrier signed his first professional contract with the Premier League club in the summer of 2021 but did not make a senior appearance before being released, last May.

Gazette:

“Being at West Ham taught me a lot and I met a lot of great people,” said Fevrier, who could play at left-back at Orient tomorrow with Connor Wood ineligible to play against his parent club.

“There were some good experiences and some not so good experiences but my time there was good.”

Fevrier played at West Ham under current U’s sporting director Dmitri Halajko, who was previously the Hammers under-23 lead coach.

He added: “I worked with Dmitri for a few years, before I joined Colchester.

“He taught me a lot and he’s been good for me.”
