A MAN has been arrested after a 17-year-old boy suffered a broken leg when he was attacked in Castle Park.

Detectives are investigating an assault which left the teenager with the injury in Colchester.

Essex Police said it received reports of the youngster being assaulted in Castle Park between 5.40pm and 6.10pm on Saturday.

A 22-year-old man from West Mersea has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent in connection with the incident.

He has been released on bail until May 25.

Officers from the Colchester Local Policing Team, Community Policing Team and the Force Support Unit attended the address as part of their inquiries and are continuing to investigate.

A police spokesman said: “If you have any information, CCTV, dash cam or other footage in relation to this incident, then please get in contact with us.

The assault has sparked concern for Castle ward councillor Mark Goacher, who has appealed for any clues to be passed on to the police.

He said: “That age is the same age as the students I teach so I would be very concerned if people of that age group felt unsafe in the park at all.

“Castle Park should be safe for everybody. It is an awful incident.

“I hope whoever the person or persons responsible are get caught and brought to justice as soon as possible.

“If anyone does know something please take it to the police. We need to get these people caught and any information must be taken to the police.”
