POLICE cordons may only have been lifted on Saturday afternoon, but investigations are already underway to decipher the series of events which led to the stabbing of a man near Magdalen Street in Colchester on Friday night.
An 18-year-old from Panfield, Braintree, has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
According to an official police statement, the 999 call was made to the emergency services at about 11pm, and shortly after the authorities arrived on the scene, Magdalen Street and George Williams Way were cordoned off to members of the public.
Four police cars were on the scene, whilst people driving in both directions were redirected – some towards St Botolph’s Circus, and others towards Wimpole Road, Colchester.
What happened
The 999 call came after a man was stabbed in the stomach.
An 18-year-old man from Panfield was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
The police said they believe the attack was targeted.
The 18-year-old, who has not yet been named by Essex Police, is also suspected of possessing an offensive weapon and causing criminal damage.
As of Saturday morning, he was still in custody.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, the police presence in Magdalen Street remained significant, but the police cordon was gradually scaled down.
By about 8am, Magdalen Street had reopened, though George Williams Way remained cordoned off throughout the morning whilst two members of Essex Police patrolled the scene.
By the early afternoon, the cordon was then taken down.

This is latest statement provided by an Essex Police spokesman following Friday night's incident.
“A man has been arrested in connection with an assault in Colchester last night (Friday 31 March).
“We were called to reports of a disturbance in Magdalen Street shortly after 11pm and when officers attended they found a man with a stab wound to his stomach.
“He was taken to hospital where he was in a serious condition.
“An 18-year-old man from Panfield has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, possession of an offensive weapon, and criminal damage.
“He is currently in custody.
“At this stage we believe this was a targeted attack but we are putting on additional high visibility patrols for reassurance.
