A CHIP shop manager has described the “amazing” moment staff found out they had been named as one of the best eateries in the country.
The Hook of Halstead, in Weavers Court, Halstead has been named on the Fry Awards list in the UK.
The shop was opened in 2015 by Alejandro Garcia Mayol and Sue Miller and a sister shop, the Hook of Clacton was opened in the summer 2022 in Marine Parade West.
The Halstead shop also received a quality award from the National Federation of Fish Fryers in 2021.
Senior manager Lewis Russell has nine years of experience in the industry and has worked at the Hook of Halstead for two and a half years.

He said: “The quality award was just the start for us.
“We strive to be the best so it's nice to be acknowledged for that.
“We don’t want to be just a fish and chip shop, we want to be the fish and chip shop.
“It was about 9pm when we found out we had made the list, we found out by seeing a news article online about it.
“We were all like children, we were so excited and were all calling each other in shock.
“We consider ourselves as good, but to be told that solidified it more, it was amazing.”
