THREE girls are over the moon after smashing their fundraising target for a friend with alopecia with ambitions to take the fundraising even further.

The three students of the Gilberd School in Colchester, who play for Colchester City Ladies under 13s football team, hosted a charity bake sale at their match raising a whopping £846 on the day.

Daisy-Mae Lee, 13, Kate Wall-Hardern, 13 and Erin Graves, 12, have been raising funds for a fellow teammate, following her alopecia diagnosis 18 months ago.

The trio set up their stall, chocked full of tasty treats, on Sunday morning, ahead of their game against Colebrook Royals from Chigwell.

The Boxted Runners club were first on the scene, purchasing some of the treats on offer to take away with them.

The girls then went off to play their match, as their parents manned the stall selling cakes to spectators and parents of the opposition.

A good turnout saw the stall dispatch most of the cakes, as another running club passed by, as well as other parkgoers.

After beating the side from Chigwell, the girls returned to their stall to sell cakes for the Under 12s game, with only a handful of them at the end of the day.

Daisy-Mae’s mum, Clare Lee said: “The girls were elated, they couldn’t believe the turn out. People weren’t just buying cakes, they were making additional donations on top. Those without cash made donations online via the JustGiving page.

“I was totally proud; I couldn’t have hoped for it to go better.

"They are fundraising for such a good cause, hopefully this will fund research and support for those affected with the condition.

"I’m over the moon at how much they have raised and that they are motivated to keep going.”
