TALENTED young musicians – some of whom recently played in front of King Charles III - are set to hold concerts at a venue in Colchester.

The Essex Youth Orchestra will stage a performance at St Botolph’s Church on April 14 before the Essex Young People’s Orchestra hosts a show the following evening.

Musicians begin developing their skills at the Essex Young People’s Orchestra before moving on to the Essex Youth Orchestra.

The programme on the first night will feature the well-known Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini, which will be accompanied by visiting Essex pianist Jamie Cochrane.

Peter Lovell, head of the Essex Music Service, part of Essex County Council, said: “For all who attend either of the concerts, they will be in for a fabulous evening.”

Beverley Heard, music ensembles lead officer at Essex Music Service, said the final concert will also feature the Essex Youth String Octet, which recently performed for royalty.

During their recent visit to Colchester, King Charles and the Queen Consort were treated to a special performance by the musicians at Colchester Library.

Beverley added: “Essex Young People’s Orchestra will present a concert of family favourites including the Strauss’ rousing Radetsky March and Nimrod from the Enigma Variations.”

The first show will start at 7.30pm and the second at 7pm.

No booking is required to attend either concert.
