A BOOM Battle bar, mini golf course and arcade could be opened inside a former department store earmarked for major renovation works.

The latest plans submitted to Colchester Council will complement a trampoline park and go-karting course inside the city’s vacant Debenhams if approved.

It means the full blueprints for the site which has laid empty in Culver Street West since May 2021 have been published.

The ground floor will boast an arcade accessed at the Culver Square entrance and a Putt Putt Noodle mini golf course at the Culver Street West end.

“Debenhams has been empty for some time and I know quite a few people have been working hard to think what the best use of that space is.

“It is quite a big space so there is a lot that can be done there and it will appeal to a wide variety of people.”

Debenhams closed its doors for the final time almost two years ago after 34 years of serving shoppers.

Its opening was hailed as a landmark moment for the city centre and the shop was celebrated as the flagship store in Culver Square.
