CONNOR Hall admits nothing other than a win will do for Colchester United when they host Crewe Alexandra tomorrow.

The U’s game against Alex on Easter Monday has taken on extra importance, after they were dragged closer to the League Two trapdoor.

Colchester lie just a point above the relegation zone with six games remaining, after their 1-1 draw at Stevenage and other results going against them, on Good Friday.

Colchester United fans have their say on Stevenage draw

And while Hall admits their point at promotion-chasing Boro was encouraging, the defender admits they have to now back it up with a much-needed victory, at the JobServe Community Stadium.

Hall said: "On a positive note, we've come to two of the top teams in the league in Stevenage and Leyton Orient and taken points off them.

"We can be encouraged by that but we have to follow it up on Monday with a win.

"If we do, then the draws that we've had lately will be very good draws.

Gazette:

"It's pretty obvious that we're in a relegation fight - there's no getting away from that.

"We've been sucked in and we've only got ourselves to blame.

"However, it's still in our hands so with the games left for the rest of the season, we've got to make sure we get better points than the teams below us.

Stevenage boss Steve Evans felt late effort should have been allowed to stand

"I do think we're becoming a harder team to beat and that's a positive we can take.

"But it's only going to be a big positive if we get three points on Monday.

"If we don't do that, then the games before it are irrelevant.

"We've got to be positive if we want to get out of this and there's no excuses for anybody.

"We've got to get up and go again.”

Hall grabbed his second goal of the season for Colchester when he scored the opener at Stevenage.

The 29-year-old swept home from close range, following Noah Chilvers’ delivery into the box.

"We've worked on stuff in training and we said to be alive for second and third phases,” he said.

"That's exactly what they're good at and we wanted to be exactly the same.

"Luckily, it popped up for me, I stayed alive in the box and managed to put it away.

Verdict on Colchester United's 1-1 draw with Stevenage

"It's always nice to get on the scoresheet, especially as a defender.

"But equally, my job is to help get clean sheets and we were unable to get one (at Stevenage).

"I was happy to score but it wasn't the right result for us so not too happy.

"The gaffer's given us a challenge until the end of the season and we know that if we can keep a clean sheet, it gives us a massive opportunity to either win or draw.”

Gazette:

Colchester deserved their point at Stevenage, on Good Friday.

Alex Gilbey rescued a point for the hosts just after half-time, after Hall had given the U’s a first-half lead.

Hall added: "It was a tough start for us and we knew it would be (at Stevenage).

"To get a goal and be in front in the game made them have to chase the game then and we weren't chasing the game, to get a goal.

"They got one in the second half but at least we managed to hold out and not capitulate after that goal and get a draw.

"It was a tough end to the game for us.

"They chucked everything at it; they're up the top and they need wins.

"We had to hold on and that's what we did."
