A CAR manufacturer has confirmed it will retain a presence in Colchester after its previous main dealer announced the closure of its showroom.
Underwoods announced the closure of its Kia dealership, located on Severalls Industrial Estate, in Highwoods, yesterday.
Glyn Hopkin, however, will soon act as Kia’s newly appointed main dealer in Colchester, in what is the firm’s third partnership with Kia.
A Kia spokesperson said: “Glyn Hopkin Kia Colchester will soon be appointed, offering a full suite of services to customers in Colchester and the surrounding areas.
“This will be the third Glyn Hopkin Kia partnership. This year, Glyn Hopkin is celebrating 30 years of business, helping thousands of customers with all their motoring needs.
“Full details of this new showroom will follow in due course.”

Gerry Wiggins, the managing director of Underwoods, said the decision to close Underwoods Kia was out of the firm’s hands, but Kia maintains it “enjoys a mutually beneficial relationship with its nationwide dealer network”.
“Evidence of this can be found in consistently high NFDA survey results, which position Kia as the best manufacturer to work with in the eyes of its dealer partners,” added the spokesman for the motoring giant.
“Kia has no plans to change the number or location of dealers we work with across the country and is committed to the renowned dealership-to-customer business model.”
