Colletts Farm Dairy selling unpasteurised milk in machine

Tim Gurton said he was initially sceptical about the unpasteurised milk’s wonders but after his wife Sophie said it helped combat her animal allergies he became all ears.

It followed amazed customers at Colletts Farm Dairy in Wormingford telling of the product helping to clear up eczema and busting their stomach issues.

Now the milk is available on tap from a vending machine for people to bottle up at £1.75 for one litre.

Mr Gurton, who has worked at the farm for 23 years, said people are travelling from all over Essex to get their hands on the milk.

“It is proving quite popular and we have seen a lot of new customers come to use the machine,” he said.

“It is a bit of a novelty and people are very keen to come and try it for themselves.

“A lot of people are buying into the benefits of having milk unpasteurised and so business has grown as we are the only place in the county who do this.”

Mr Gurton claimed keeping milk raw means many of its vitamins and minerals are not killed during the pasteurisation process.

But experts remain unmoved by tales of the health benefits it may bring.

“At the start we were almost a little sceptical but it soon became apparent there was a fascinating knock-on effect of drinking the milk,” continued Mr Gurton.

“I can’t officially say the milk does wonders but I have heard of a lot of benefits and customers keep on coming back saying the same thing.”

The farmer said the project began with three cows in 2018 and has since grown to 16 being milked twice daily at the farm.

The vending machine came about due to popular request from his customers.

“We’ve got people coming from places like Basildon and Southend to buy this milk and it gives me a nice feeling that we are appreciated,” said Mr Gurton.

“It’s nice to be something different. We have a really good product and now we can sell it in a way that people want it.”
