Traffic lights causing long delays on a busy route in and out of Colchester are set to be in place for another six days.

Electrical works near St John's Church in Ipswich Road began on Tuesday with traffic lights put in place.

They have since been causing a buildup of slow traffic along the stretch of Ipswich Road during rush hour.

AA Traffic updates show "severe delays" of 19 minutes this morning.

The roadworks are causing delays back to the Ardleigh Interchange and down to Cowdray Avenue and St Andrews Avenue in the opposite direction.

Information from One Network shows the work could last until midnight Monday, April 24.

The AA report said: "Temporary Traffic Signals are causing slow traffic on A1232 both ways at Ipswich Road from April 18, 13:19 until April 24, 23:39."

Traffic is also building on Severalls Lane and into the Colchester business park.

Due to some drivers attempting to divert, there are also queues around the Highwoods area.
