ANOTHER fast food restaurant could be coming to Colchester as fresh plans for another drive-thru have been revealed.
Plans have been submitted which could see Global chain Burger King open another site in the city, adding to the existing takeaway in the city centre High Street.
The plans are for an empty unit at the Stane Leisure Park in Stanway.
The leisure park, which concluded construction in 2018, already has The Princess Charlotte pub, two drive thru café and restaurants in Starbucks and KFC and three other buildings, one occupied by Nandos, one now occupied by Vets for Pets and Unit 3 which is vacant.
Since completion, Unit 3 has never been occupied, and despite ongoing marketing by specialist agents Savills and Edgerley Simpson Howe, no interest for the unit has been received.
The applicant now has interest from Burger King to use the restaurant as a drive thru facility as well as a restaurant use.
The redevelopment would provide a drive thru restaurant and café unit, with the option to dine in as well.

Plans outline the redevelopment, which says existing pedestrian and cycle links through the leisure park will be retained and a new drive-thru lane will be introduced.
The proposals include several interventions to “promote the safety” of those using the existing children’s park outside of the unit.
The proposed drive thru lane is within the existing footprint of the building, therefore the play park can remain at its full size.
Plans also outline a brick wall to be introduced around the drive thru lane to prevent vehicles mounting the pavement or crossing into the play area.
A pedestrian crossing has also been introduced across the drive thru lane.
A planning statement also outlines benefits of the proposal, saying “it presents economic investment delivering jobs and a facility supporting local communities” while making the “best use of this previously developed location”.
It also says the proposal would “enhance the role of the district centre by providing a new facility for nearby workers, visitors and residents.
The plans will be ruled on by Colchester Council.
