AN LGBTQ+ rugby has received support from one of Colchester’s main law firms in the form of a kit sponsorship deal.

Colchester Kings RFC, which formed in June last year and is East Anglia’s first gay and inclusive rugby team, is now being sponsored by Colchester law firm Birkett Long.

The aim of the team is to give queer people a safe space to participate in team sports in an environment free of homophobia and transphobia.

The chairman of Colchester Kings RFC, Samuel Biscoe, said the club values the support the law firm has offered in the eight months since the team launched.

He said: “We’re delighted to have Birkett Long as a sponsor for our inaugural year.

“Having a local firm that is visibly engaged in our community is really important to us and we’re delighted with the support that they have given us since we established the team last year.

“We look forward to a long and engaging partnership as the club enters the International Gay Rugby league this September.”

Colchester Kings RFC train on Monday evenings at 7pm at Colchester Sports Park, with those of any age, experience, or sexuality welcome to join.
