A NEW bakery looks set to open in Colchester after signs appeared on an empty building in the city centre.
Bakehouse Express appears to have taken over a vacant unit, in Culver Walk, near the Lion Walk Shopping Centre.
It is currently unknown exactly when the eatery will open but when it does foodies can expect to enjoy a range of treats, cakes and baked goods.
The bakery, which has branches in Maldon, Chelmsford and Witham, also offers afternoon teas and its own blend of Bakehouse coffee.
Colchester Council leader David King says he is excited about the new bakery.
He said: "As a lover of fine bread, ordinary bread and bread of all kinds, I love the idea of a new Bakehouse opening at the heart of the city centre.
"I'm sure it's set to bring a contribution of variation to Colchester residents as well as visitors.
"Like others, I wish them well and note the new store is yet another investment in our increasingly thriving city centre."
