A MOTORIST who undertook another driver in Colchester has had his court case shared to warn other careless drivers.

Matthew Zammit, 34, was driving in Clingoe Hill on September 17 last year when the offence took place.

Colchester Magistrates’ Court heard Zammit was in the right-hand lane before cutting into the left lane to undertake a vehicle in front of him, before he pulled back into the right lane.

The offence of driving without due care was proven by magistrates in the absence of Zammit, of Vaughan Drive, Elmstead.

He was handed six penalty points and ordered to pay £726 in a fine, surcharge and costs.

Footage of the incident, caught by another road user’s dashcam, has been shared by Safer Essex Roads Partnership on YouTube.

It comes as part of the partnership’s Extra Eyes campaign in collaboration with Essex Police.

SERP said the video was crucial in leading to the prosecution of Zammit.

Motorists are encouraged to share footage of poor driving with the campaign so officers can prosecute the culprit.
