CLASSICAL fans are encouraged to book remaining tickets as a group of talented musicians is set to perform the final concert of a series.

The Bloomsbury Players are set to perform in The Old Library in West Stockwell Street, Colchester, and will play Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C major.

The renowned music chamber will perform for the final concert of the Roman River Music Spring Series by music charity Wild Arts.

In a highly anticipated event, the renowned music chamber will perform the piece which is regarded as one of the greatest works ever.

A spokesman for Wild Arts said: “The piece, composed in 1828, just two months before Schubert's untimely death, is imbued with a sense of introspection and melancholy, while also featuring moments of intense passion and exuberance.

“The quintet, scored for two violins, viola and two cellos, is considered one of Schubert's most technically demanding works, requiring virtuosic playing from all five musicians.”

The Bloomsbury Players, founded in 2006, is made up of talented musicians from the UK and beyond including cellists Orlando Jopling and Hugh Mackay, violist John Crockatt, and violinists Will McGahon and Sijie Chen.

Their performance will utilise gut strings, as opposed to modern strings made of metal alloys.

The last concert of the Roman River Music Spring Series will take place on Thursday, May 25, at 7.30pm.
