COLCHESTER star Dermot O’Leary will front today’s coronation coverage on ITV from the set of a popular soap opera.
The popular daytime magazine show This Morning will join forces with Coronation Street for a live 150-minute episode starting at 10am, presented by Colchester's very own Dermot alongside his co-host Alison Hammond.
Today’s show will come live from the fictional town of Weatherfield, which will be familiar to fans of the cobbles.
The special episode is part of a jam-packed day of celebration that’ll get royal fans excited for the big day, including a Loose Women garden party, and a coronation-themed edition of Lorraine.
Emma Gormley, managing director ITV Daytime, said: “The coronation of HM King Charles III is a once-in-a-lifetime television event and here at ITV Daytime we’re producing many hours of bespoke content, as well as special standalone shows, to celebrate and commemorate this historical occasion with our audience, both at home and globally.”
Presenter Dermot will also be among the voices hosting the BBC’s coronation coverage over the weekend on BBC Radio and BBC Sounds.
Speaking in the programme, the radio presenter said: “Our Price, Woolworths, Virgin, HMV.
“Maybe even a pilgrimage to Tower Records, plus thousands of independent stores up and down the country which were rammed every Saturday with us all spending our pocket money or our record vouchers.”
Who is Dermot O'Leary?
He went on to gain a BA degree in Media and Television and worked as a DJ for BBC Essex.
His career has also included presenting Big Brother's Little Brother, This Morning, Soccer Aid, and the BRIT awards, but he is perhaps best well known for his role as the host of the popular ITV singing competition The X Factor for most of its run.
In March, it was rumoured The X Factor would return to our screens for a one-off charity special, with Dermot fronting the show once again.
Colchester-based Stevi Ritchie, who was a contestant on the series, was also rumoured to be taking part.
