FORMER Colchester United midfielder Craig Slater has secured a switch to Scottish Championship side Arbroath.

The 29-year-old, who played for the U's for two years under John McGreal between 2016 and 2018, has signed for the Red Lichties after leaving Forfar Athletic where he was club captain.

Slater was named in the PFA League 2 Team of the Season and also been nominated for the PFA League 2 Player of the Season.

Slater is also first-team coach at Scottish Women’s Premier League club Motherwell, under head coach Paul Brownlie.

Slater made 42 league and cup appearances for Colchester after joining them from Kilmarnock, scoring three times.

He left the U's to join Partick, in the summer of 2018.
