A BANK is set to close its doors permanently as a council application confirms its decommissioning.
The Barclays branch, in Yorick Road, West Mersea, is set to serve its final customer on Tuesday, June 13, as Barclays prepares to shut 14 more branches across the country.

Colchester Council has received an application regarding the Barclays branch in Mersea.
The application is set to be resolved before Friday, July 7, 2023, a month after the bank's closure.

The application states: "The proposed work in this two-storey property is for removal of existing external signage; removal of external ATM and infill existing aperture by brickwork to match existing brickwork; and removal of night safe and infill existing aperture by brickwork to match existing brickwork.
"The building has been a Barclays Bank for a number of years, serving the local community during this time."
Currently, there are no plans confirming what business will take over the existing building in the heart of Mersea's centre.
