A COLCHESTER salon boss says he is "over the moon" after her business won a national award recognising services it offers.
ID Hairdressing, on Priory Walk, has won the title of ‘Best Unisex Salon in Colchester’, awarded by Luxe Life Magazine.
The awards process sees judges take several factors into consideration, looking at customer testimonies, service excellence, quality of service providers and evidence of work.
The salon found out that they had been shortlisted for the award back in early December, finding out they were finalists in February.
They found out that they had won at the end of March, having to keep the exciting news underwraps until the public announcement.
Salon owner, Ian Duggan, 41, has described his emotions as "more than over the moon", saying the award has provided staff with a morale boost.
Ian is Colchester born and bred, picking up his first Saturday job at a barbershop in the then town aged just 14.
He worked across the town, gaining experience in barbershops, before making the shift to unisex salons.
He then spent some time working in London gaining further experience.
Ian realised he had found his calling and never looked back. He said he was drawn back to Colchester, due to his love for the area, opening up ID Hairdressing back in 2018.
Speaking on his experience and receiving the award, Ian said: “I have worked all over, but I just found myself wanting to come back to Colchester. I love the community.
“The phrase ‘over the moon’ doesn’t even describe how I feel. I was just thrilled, to be recognised for our work. This award validates our hard work and really boosts the team’s moral.
“It was absolutely brilliant news to hear. It has really gotten the team motivated and excited because their hard work and dedication is being recognised.”
ID Hairdressing will receive its award for Best Unisex Salon in Colchester 2023, at the Luxe Life Magazine awards later this year, in July.
