GREENSTEAD residents have hit out at Anglian Water after their road suffered its second burst water pipe in a month.
Pensioner Ken Oliver, who has lived in Howe Close, Colchester, since 1974, said the street has been left in a state “not much better than a cart track” due to the issue.
Anglian Water workers were initially called to the road in late April after water poured downwards from the top of the slope.
They returned at the weekend and spent all day undertaking a “challenging” repair due to the 1960s pipe infrastructure.
A spokeswoman said both incidents were unconnected and apologised for the disruption to residents.
Mr Oliver, 74, has called for the water firm to fund repairs to the road after its surface suffered considerable damage.

“The water was pouring down the road in an absolute torrent and it is having all sorts of lasting effects,” he said.
“The damage to the road is the worst part, it has been left in a condition not much better than a cart track – it is horrendous.
“It has caused considerable disruption and left the road in a dreadful, dreadful state.”
Another Howe Close resident, who requested to remain anonymous, said there was another leak in November last year.
They added: “The road is uncomfortable to walk on, driving down it is a nightmare as you are bumping from left to right.
“People are not able to park outside their houses. We are once again subject to temporary traffic lights.”
The Anglian Water spokeswoman confirmed workers attended two separate “unconnected” events and carried out permanent repairs.
“This area is part of a 1960s estate which is characterised by PVC piping. We attended each issue promptly and worked hard to ensure a safe and fast resolution.
“The second incident unfortunately was a lengthy repair due to volume of concrete in the ground by the pipe thus making access challenging.
“We apologise for disruption to customers and thank them for their patience whilst these were repaired.”
