RESIDENTS are being warned of “more noise than usual” overnight as new work will be starting on the ongoing A12 scheme.
The A12 is being reconstructed between Junction 25 for Marks Tey and Junction 26 for Stanway.
Reconstruction will involve completely removing the concrete road surface and some of the foundations, before rebuilding the road and resurfacing it with asphalt.
The £37million project is expected to not conclude until the winter of 2023/24.
In the coming weeks, new overnight work is set to start which National Highways bosses are warning will cause “more noise than usual”.
A spokesman said: “Over the coming weeks, we’ll be breaking out the old concrete road foundations and laying new asphalt road surfacing on the A12 Colchester-bound carriageway from junction 25 to Turkey Cock Lane.
“Due to the potential for debris landing on the carriageway, this work will be carried out at night to ensure the safety of both our workers and all road users.
“This means that residents may hear more noise than usual, and we’d like to apologise in advance for any disturbance caused by our activity.
“Please be assured that we’ll make every effort to carefully manage noise levels to minimise the impact of this work.”

The spokesman added: “We work within specific limits, and we will regularly measure and monitor the noise and vibration caused by this work to ensure that we’re within our allocated limits at all times to remain lawful and respectful to residents.
“We’re sorry for the disruption that this may cause to your journey, and we encourage drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time when travelling.
“Please note these closures are subject to change at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances and poor weather conditions.”
Alongside the new work, there will also be some overnight closures for motorists.
From Tuesday, May 30 to Friday, June 2, there will be a full closure of the Colchester-bound slip road at Junction 25 for Marks Tey.
Traffic wishing to join the A12 Colchester-bound will travel along B1408, A1124 and re-join the A12 at J26 Stanway.
Secondly, from Monday, June 5 to Friday, June 9, the A12 will be closed Colchester-bound between Junction 25 and Junction 26.
