EASTERN England has seen the biggest increase in energy bills over the past decade out of all the UK regions, according to new data.
The average price of electricity and gas bills stood at £988 per year in 2012, with £419 coming from electricity, and £569 coming from gas.
But in the following ten years, the combined figure has more than doubled according to Plumb Nation, a heating and plumbing supplier.
Electricity bills have increased from £419 to £1,020, whilst gas prices have risen from £569 to £982.
It means the combined total of gas and electricity bills has jumped from £988 in 2012 to £2,002 in 2022, representing an increase of 102.72 per cent.
The increase was higher in the east of England than any other UK region.
Parts of Essex are also seeing hefty water bills when compared to the rest of Britain.
Anglian Water, the supplier for Colchester and other parts of north Essex, receives on average £222 from residents each year, which is the eighth most out of the 23 suppliers in England and Wales.
The 12.12 per cent increase in price, which has seen Anglian Water customers pay £24 more per year in water bills, is the third highest nationally.
