A WOMAN was taken to hospital after being knocked off her bike during a collision with a car.

Police officers partially closed Mersea Road in Colchester after attending the scene at about 9.30am today (Saturday).

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics took the adult woman to hospital for treatment.

The city centre-bound lane was closed near the BP garage and Abbot’s road junction as emergency crews worked tackled the incident.

The ambulance spokesman said: "We were called at 9.25am with reports that an adult woman had been knocked off her bicycle in a collision with a car on Mersea Road in Colchester.

"An ambulance was sent to the scene and transported the woman to Colchester Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”

An Essex Police spokeswoman confirmed officers assisted the paramedics at the scene.

She said: “We were called shortly before 9.30am following reports of a collision involving a car and a woman.

“The road was closed whilst we and the ambulance service dealt with the incident.”

First Bus stated its S8, 86, 174 and 175 routes were affected by the incident with diversions in place throughout the morning.
